As SubjectData is a boutique Professional Services Organization, this resource must have excellent communication and Client-facing skills, be "consultative" (help assess the scope/make recommendations back to SubjectData) as they will be working with all the Users, Client Execs and also one of the other Partners, Deloitte - must clearly understand that in the Professional Services space - expectation is that these resources will have enough work to work typical 40 hour weeks
Position Overview
We are looking for a Principal Architect who owns the AWS networking and EVS/HCX stack for M&A-driven cloud migrations. You will work alongside advisory and SI teams to move acquired-company workloads from on-prem VMware into Amazon EVS - standing up the AWS network fabric, configuring HCX migration paths, and wiring Pure Storage replication to meet DR requirements. VMware operations (vSphere, vCenter, NSX) are handled by an existing team; this role is focused on the AWS side and the migration tooling that bridges the two.
Key Responsibilities:
AWS Network Architecture:
Design and build the AWS network layer for EVS landing zones - VPCs, Transit Gateways, Direct Connect circuits, PrivateLink endpoints, Route 53 resolution, and Network Firewall inspection policies
Stand up multi-account network topologies (Control Tower, Organizations) for each acquired entity so workloads land in isolated, policy-compliant environments
Handle Day 1 network cutover tasks: DNS delegation, IP address planning, hybrid connectivity between acquired-company data centers and AWS
EVS & HCX Migration Execution:
Deploy and size Amazon EVS clusters to receive acquired-company VMware workloads - compute/storage right-sizing, cluster layout, SDDC Manager configuration
Configure HCX site pairing, service mesh, and network extension between source on-prem vSphere environments and target EVS clusters
Plan and run HCX migration waves (bulk migration, vMotion, RAV) organized by application dependency maps and cutover windows
Integrate EVS with native AWS services (S3, EBS, RDS) where workloads are candidates for partial re-platforming post-migration
Build repeatable migration runbooks so the pattern scales across multiple acquisitions without re-architecting each time
Storage Replication & DR
Set up Pure-to-Pure replication from on-prem FlashArray to Cloud Block Store (CBS) in AWS - selecting ActiveDR or ActiveCluster based on RPO/RTO requirements for each workload tier
Configure VMware SRM with the Pure Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) to automate failover/failback between on-prem and EVS-hosted datastores
Define protection groups and replication schedules; keep it simple and aligned to what the business actually needs rather than over-engineering
M&A Migration Delivery
Work directly with M&A and SI teams on Day 1 / Day 2 execution - network cutover, Active Directory consolidation, HCX migration waves, storage replication standup
Run discovery and assessment on acquired-company infrastructure to identify workload profiles, dependencies, and migration sequencing
Own the technical migration plan end-to-end: timeline, wave grouping, rollback criteria, success validation
Provide post-migration support - performance validation, cost baseline, handoff documentation to steady-state operations
Required Qualifications
10+ years in enterprise infrastructure or cloud architecture, with strong depth in AWS networking
Hands-on experience with AWS networking (VPC, TGW, Direct Connect, Route 53, Network Firewall, PrivateLink) - not just design, actual implementation
Direct experience deploying and operating Amazon EVS or VMware Cloud on AWS
Proven track record running HCX migrations at scale - site pairing, service mesh, network extension, migration wave execution
Working knowledge of VMware vSphere and vCenter (enough to navigate, not expected to be the primary VMware admin)
Familiarity with Pure Storage replication concepts (FlashArray, CBS, ActiveDR) and VMware SRM - or equivalent array replication and DR orchestration experience
Experience in M&A, carve-out, or systems integration engagements where you were responsible for infrastructure migration
Comfortable with IaC tooling (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) to automate repeatable deployments
Background in consulting, managed services, or professional services delivery - you know how to scope work and run a migration engagement
Experience with AWS migration services (MGN, DMS, DataSync) as complementary tools alongside HCX
Familiarity with FinOps practices for post-migration cost optimization
Experience with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, FedRAMP) relevant to acquired entities
