APR Consulting Inc is seeking a Senior Advanced Software Engineer to support critical space development programs for a DoD/Aerospace client. The role involves designing and developing mission-critical software systems, leading development across various technologies, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, deploy, and support mission-critical software systems for advanced space and defense programs
- Lead development of APIs, backend services, cloud-native applications, and distributed systems
- Build scalable solutions using Python, Java, Linux/UNIX, YAML, and JSON
- Support and optimize DevOps pipelines, CI/CD workflows, automation, and cloud infrastructure
- Collaborate across engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, infrastructure, and operations teams
- Contribute to GitOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and cloud deployment strategies
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards, security best practices, and secure software development methodologies
- Generate and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and knowledge-sharing resources
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and engineering guidance to development teams
- Influence architectural decisions, design standards, and engineering best practices
- Support innovation initiatives including AI-assisted engineering workflows and prompt engineering tools
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline plus 8+ years of software engineering experience, OR a Master's degree plus 6+ years of relevant experience
- U.S. Citizenship is required

- API development, integration, and testing experience
- Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed system design
- AWS cloud experience including EKS, EC2, Lambda, S3, IAM
- Experience with GitLab, Nexus, ArgoCD, Ansible, Terragrunt
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation
- Containerization and orchestration experience with Docker, Kubernetes
- Understanding of DoD security standards, Vulnerability management, PKI, Encryption methodologies
- Experience with ACAS / Grype, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack
- Clearance is not required to start; however, Secret and/or Top Secret clearance is preferred
- Proven success leading complex software engineering and cloud modernization efforts
- Strong DevOps and cloud-native engineering mindset
- Ability to creatively apply technical standards and engineering methodologies
- Passion for automation, innovation, scalability, and continuous improvement
- Strong mentorship, collaboration, and leadership abilities
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, SDA, or mission-critical government programs
- Agile and/or Scaled Agile experience
- AWS Solutions Architect certification
- Kafka or event streaming platform experience
- Experience with Git, Jira, Confluence, Maven, VS Code
- AI tooling and prompt engineering experience to accelerate engineering workflows
