This role supports a large-scale environmental data initiative focused on enabling access to high-quality, scientifically credible data for stakeholders. The team delivers data services, governance, and technical solutions to support integrated environmental monitoring, reporting, and analytics.
Work Schedule
- Hours: 08:15 AM 4:30 PM (Alberta Time)
- Days: Monday Friday (excluding statutory holidays)
Position Summary
We are seeking an Intermediate Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to design, develop, and optimize advanced analytics solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Power BI, SQL, and data modeling, along with the ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable insights. This role involves working closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop interactive dashboards, scorecards, and reports using Power BI
- Build and maintain scalable data models using DAX and Power Query (M)
- Develop ETL processes and manage data pipelines for reporting solutions
- Integrate Power BI with cloud-based and on-premises data sources
- Gather business requirements and translate them into BI solutions and KPIs
- Perform data analysis including trend analysis, forecasting, and predictive insights
- Present findings and insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Publish and maintain datasets and dashboards in Power BI Service
- Implement performance optimization techniques and incremental data refresh
- Apply security measures including Row-Level Security (RLS) and access controls
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with data governance standards
- Provide user training and support for BI tools and dashboards
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certification in Computer Science or a related field
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Business Intelligence or data analytics
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI (dashboarding, modeling, DAX, visualization)
- Experience translating business requirements into end-to-end BI solutions
- Advanced experience with SQL for querying, transformation, and analysis
- Experience working with large and complex datasets
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present insights effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure data services and analytics tools
- Experience implementing Power BI Service features (data refresh, workspaces, RLS)
- Advanced DAX experience including time intelligence and calculated measures
- Experience in executive-level reporting and data storytelling
- Experience working with public sector or regulated datasets
- Familiarity with environmental or large-scale operational data
Equipment Requirements
- Candidate must provide their own computer and equipment
- System must support secure remote access environments (Windows preferred)
- Necessary access credentials will be provided
