Orbital Sidekick is a company focused on hyperspectral imagery and geospatial analytics. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain systems that power their User Interfaces, Analytics, and Data Pipeline, requiring strong Python skills and cloud-native experience.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain production systems across SIGMA (APIs, platform services, customer delivery) and the Data Pipeline (imagery processing, derived analytics)
- Write clean, well-tested Python code with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability
- Build and operate data processing workflows for hyperspectral imagery and geospatial analytics products
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical documentation
- Own and operate cloud infrastructure on AWS (Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, CDK, Terraform)
- Ensure system observability, reliability, and security across platform services
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
- Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Analytics, and Operations to align on priorities and deliver customer value
- Support code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
- Communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

- 5–9+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
- Expert-level Python proficiency with experience building data pipelines, APIs, and platform services
- Hands-on experience with AWS services: Lambda, S3, ECS, RDS, CDK
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- Familiarity with Django or similar API frameworks
- Strong background in Agile/Scrum development workflows
- Demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex technical work independently
- Strong communication skills with cross-functional teams
