Staff Product Designer

GoodParty.org is on a mission to empower Independent candidates and reshape democracy. They are seeking a Staff Product Designer to own complex product areas, drive design strategy, and mentor other designers while leveraging AI tools to enhance user experiences.

Responsibilities:

• Own end-to-end design for complex, high-impact product areas that serve candidates and elected officials across the country
• Drive design strategy and execution for features that bridge our Win (campaign tools) and Serve (constituent services) product lines
• Evolve our design system, creating patterns and components that enable the team to ship consistently at speed
• Elevate our brand expression across product touchpoints, ensuring every interaction reflects our mission while remaining accessible to all users
• Pioneer AI-powered design workflows that accelerate our team's velocity while maintaining craft excellence
• Conduct deep user research with candidates, elected officials and citizens to discover what a truly representative democracy experience looks like
• Implement design changes directly in our codebase using tools like Claude Code and Cursor, speeding up engineering dependencies and iteration cycles
• Mentor peer designers on craft excellence, systems thinking, and user research methodologies
• Collaborate closely with engineering and product leadership to ensure our most complex features ship on time and exceed user expectations
• Reports to the Chief Product Officer

Requirements:

• Proven track record of shipping high-impact products in consumer internet companies or consumer-quality SaaS companies
• At least 2+ years in a staff or principal-level individual contributor role
• Experience owning complex product areas while mentoring other designers
• Ability to establish design standards across the platform
• Experience leveraging cutting edge AI tools to make a massive impact
• 6+ years of product design experience
• Experience leading the design of complex, multi-stakeholder products from 0-1
• Experience scaling features to serve thousands of users
• Highly skilled in both responsive web design and native mobile applications
• Portfolio showcasing systematic thinking and craft excellence
• Highly proficient with design tools like Figma
• Comfortable implementing design changes in code using tools like Cursor or similar
• Strong AI fluency, using AI tools to accelerate design workflow beyond basic content generation
• Deep experience with user research methodologies
• Ability to synthesize insights across diverse user segments
• Exceptional brand sensibility and visual taste
• Ability to elevate product's aesthetic while maintaining accessibility and simplicity
• Experience building or significantly contributing to design systems
• Ability to communicate complex design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in fast-paced startup environments
• Experience designing for diverse user bases with varying levels of technical sophistication
• Experience working on products with civic, social impact, or mission-driven focus
• Experience contributing to open-source design systems or experience with design ops
• Studied, worked, or volunteered in politics, civics, or democracy reform
• Passion for design to act in the context of democracy
