About this role
Toast is a company focused on building a platform that helps restaurants thrive. As the Principal Product Designer for Toast IQ Core, you will lead the design strategy and execution for their AI assistant product, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to enhance user experience and drive product adoption.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design strategy and execution for Toast’s newest AI assistant product
- Shape how we evolve the assistant’s capabilities and footprint across web, mobile and hardware
- Partner closely with product, engineering, data science, go-to-market, and third-party partners to define the future of intelligence at Toast
- Lead the end-to-end design process for core UX/UI features within Toast’s AI ecosystem
- Drive prototyping and experimentation for evolving AI features like memory and personalization
- Conduct and coordinate data analysis, user research and usability testing to inform design decisions
- Mentor junior designers, promoting best practices and fostering a culture of innovation and AI adoption
Requirements:
- Proven ability to lead high-impact design initiatives at a principal level
- Lead the end-to-end design process for core UX/UI features within Toast's AI ecosystem, including web and native mobile platforms
- Deep understanding of emerging AI use cases and tooling, foundational user-centered design principles, usability, and accessibility standards
- Proven ability and desire to conduct and coordinate data analysis, user research and usability testing to inform design decisions
- Proficiency in emerging AI tools (Claude, Codex etc) is essential, as well as design tools like Figma, Miro, and other collaborative design platforms
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, GTM, data scientists and other stakeholders to define design requirements and align on goals
- Drive strategic design initiatives and mentor junior designers, promoting best practices and fostering a culture of innovation and AI adoption
- First hand experience and enthusiasm for the restaurant industry and designing impactful solutions for its unique challenges
- Experience and passion for designing for growth and AI-driven experiences
- Strong technical fluency: comfortable with APIs, data flows, and personalization algorithms, experience with LLMs, experimentation, A/B testing, personalization engines, or automation frameworks
