Simpliant is a small healthcare SaaS company looking for a senior PHP engineer to help build and improve their product. The role involves backend PHP/Laravel development, managing the full lifecycle of contingent healthcare staffing, and contributing to new features and bug fixes.
Responsibilities:
- Build new features in our PHP/Laravel and Vue.js application, working from client feedback and leadership direction
- Own the full path from understanding the need to shipping the solution: user flows, code, and tests
- Write automated tests as part of every feature
- Participate in code review with the rest of the technical team
- Investigate and resolve bugs reported by clients and internal teams, and own the fix through to shipping
- Write regression tests for every fix so the same issue doesn’t come back
- Take escalations from support when issues require engineering investigation
- Stay close enough to client feedback, through the team and occasional direct contact, to understand who you’re building for
- Help identify areas where our development process, tooling, or documentation could be better
Requirements:
- Strong PHP/Laravel background. This is the core requirement, and you'll be the team's primary PHP resource
- Full-stack web application experience, with enough Vue.js comfort to contribute on the frontend when needed
- Solid grounding in automated testing in PHP: writing tests is part of how you work, not something that happens at the end
- Collaborative approach to implementation: you ask questions and want to understand how and why users interact with the software, not just what to build
- Stays connected with the team: surfaces blockers early, keeps work visible, and doesn't go quiet
- Comfortable working in a small team where the pace is real
- Willing to use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code and similar) as a regular part of how you work
- Experience with AWS or cloud infrastructure basics
- Background in healthcare technology or compliance-sensitive environments
- Experience with RESTful API design and integration patterns
