NuScale Power is focused on innovative nuclear technology and is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 4 to support NSSS Systems Design. This role involves performing mechanical engineering assignments, collaborating with a team on complex tasks, and providing technical direction and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations
- Possesses extensive product knowledge of NSSS Components within the NSSS Systems such as, Piping, Vessels, Valves CRDMs, Pressurizer Heaters, etc
- Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with NSSS systems. Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions
- Interprets scope and project requirements to develop design alternatives when required
- Serves as test program sponsor for testing scope related to the individual’s area of expertise
- Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts
- Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in all areas of NSSS design
- Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams
- Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical)
- A registered professional engineer license (P.E) in Mechanical, Nuclear, is desired, but not required
- Minimum of 10 years of full-time, relevant nuclear experience is required
- A significant level of ISI expertise is required
- Must have strong technical writing skills as well as professional communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
- Possess a working knowledge of ASME Sections III & XI Codes and Standards and 10CFR 50
- ASME Section XI Engineering Programs knowledge such as ISI and IST
- Knowledge of NDE requirements and techniques to be deployed during PSI and ISI of components
- Nuclear Utility or plant experience and knowledge
- NSSS Component Design, Inspection & Testing
- Resolving complex & multidisciplinary design issues
- Domestic nuclear licensing support experience
