Role: Mainframe System Programmer (Mainframe Admin or z/OS Admin)

Position Summary
Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Mainframe System Programmer to manage, maintain, and optimize critical enterprise systems running on IBM z16/z17 mainframes. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, security, performance, and scalability of the core mainframe environment supporting insurance operations, policy administration, claims processing, and financial systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade z/OS operating systems in IBM z16/z17 environments
- Perform system-level programming for IBM mainframe subsystems, including:
- JES2/JES3
- SMP/E
- RACF (Security Administration)
- WLM (Workload Management)
- DFSMS (Storage Management)
- Support and maintain key middleware and tools:
- CICS, IMS, DB2
- MQ Series (IBM MQ)
- WebSphere Application Server on z/OS
- Execute IPL planning, system upgrades, capacity planning, and performance tuning
- Lead disaster recovery planning and testing, ensuring business continuity
- Monitor system performance using tools such as RMF, SMF, and OMEGAMON
- Implement security policies, audits, and compliance standards (SOX, HIPAA as applicable)
- Provide L3 support and troubleshoot complex production incidents
- Automate operational processes using REXX, JCL, and automation tools (e.g., System Automation, NetView)
- Collaborate with application development teams, infrastructure teams, and vendors
- Maintain system documentation, standards, and procedures
- JES2/JES3, RACF, WLM
- Storage and dataset management (DASD, DFSMS)
