Colliers Engineering & Design is currently seeking a Dam Safety Project Engineer to join their Water team. The role involves developing rehabilitation designs for dams and levees, conducting safety inspections, mentoring junior staff, and managing construction projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develop project rehabilitation designs for dam, levees, and other water retaining structures
- Conduct dam and levee safety inspections and surveys for condition evaluation or in support of design efforts – investigate variables, obtain measurements, photographs, videos, and take notes; write reports
- Lead and mentor junior staff to further develop their understanding of dam and levee inspection, design, construction, and analysis
- Prepare construction documents (plans and specifications)
- Perform cost and quantity estimates and project scheduling
- Manage construction oversight/monitoring for dam and levee rehabilitation and removal projects
- Depending on specific training and skill set: Manage, perform, and review engineering analyses including seepage and slope stability analyses of embankment dams and levees, toe drain and filter designs, and gravity dam stability analyses
- Manage, perform, and review hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for spillway capacity evaluations, dam break analyses, and developing Emergency Action Plans
- Manage, perform, and review structural calculations for water retaining structures (e.g., steel gates, concrete walls, etc.)
- Lead or participate in FERC Part 12 Dam Inspections and Potential Failure Mode Analysis Sessions
- Develop work scopes, technical proposals, and manage the design aspects of projects
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in civil engineering required
- EIT (Engineer In Training) certification required; PE license highly preferred
- 4+ years of experience in dam safety engineering
- Keen interest and passion in dams, levees and water retaining structures
- Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions
- PE license highly preferred
- Project experience with the US Army Corps of Engineers or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is a plus
