Zelis is a company seeking a Ruby Backend Software Engineer to build scalable production applications and enhance their complex product. The role involves collaborating with product managers, writing maintainable code, and developing full-stack features.
Responsibilities:
- Write easily maintainable, extendable, and understandable code that adheres to software engineering design principles
- Creating and maintaining our APIs
- Developing new full-stack features to improve our products
- Supporting and enhancing current systems
- Debugging and optimizing code
- Supporting and development of comprehensive documentation and tests
- Building tooling to improve our operational efficiency
- Developing the frontend experience using Angular
- Creating and maintaining our Backend architecture
- Planning and maintaining a product long term
- Performing code reviews
- Collaborating with product to deliver on the roadmap
Requirements:
- Candidates Must be located 50-100 miles from one of the following locations: Morristown, NJ; Boston, MA; Atlanta, GA; St Petersburg, FL; St Louis, MO
- 2-3 years of backend development experience in Ruby
- Solid understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
- Understanding on how to build distributed high-volume services in Ruby
- Knowledge of development best practices (agile methodologies, code reviews, backend testing frameworks)
- Experience in backend architecture
- Experience with or understanding of front-end development, particularly Angular, to effectively collaborate on full-stack features
- Experience working with AWS
- Knowledge of API architecture development and optimization
- Solid understanding of relational databases like PostgreSQL
- Understanding of Apache Solr or willingness to learn
- Exposure to queueing systems such as RabbitMQ or willingness to learn
- Experience contributing to products in a production environment (product lifecycle, sticking to release schedules, etc.)
- Knowledge of development best practices (agile methodologies, code reviews, JavaScript testing frameworks)
