Objective Arts is a Chicago-based company focused on behavioral health analytics, providing software infrastructure for clinical assessments used by various agencies. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on both new features and the modernization of existing code, emphasizing the importance of customer interaction and meaningful software delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Hiring an engineer who's into AI coding tools
- Building features, designing systems, shipping things
- Modernization: taking a mature codebase that's been serving real customers for years and making it faster, cleaner, and more maintainable
- Using AI coding assistants daily, Claude Code in particular
- Talking to customers — this is non-negotiable. You'll be on calls 4–6 hours a week explaining technical things to clinicians and program directors who don't speak engineer
- Switching gears from heads-down coding to customer conversations without losing your day
- Comfortable with modernization work — finding the puzzle of improving existing systems interesting, not annoying
- Shipping working software more than talking about shipping working software
Requirements:
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- You use AI coding assistants daily, Claude Code in particular
- You can talk to customers — this is non-negotiable. You'll be on calls 4–6 hours a week explaining technical things to clinicians and program directors who don't speak engineer
- You can switch gears from heads-down coding to that kind of conversation without losing your day

- Experience with Java backend
- Experience with Angular frontend
