Apex Infrastructure Consultants is seeking an experienced Civil / Land Development Engineer to support large-scale data center site development and infrastructure projects from early site planning through construction. The role involves serving as a technical lead and owner-side representative, ensuring projects meet technical requirements, schedule expectations, and design standards.
Responsibilities:
- Provide civil engineering expertise for data center site development, land development, and infrastructure projects
- Support projects from site planning and due diligence through design, permitting, construction, and turnover
- Review civil engineering design packages, including site layout, grading, drainage, utility routing, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and earthwork plans
- Provide technical guidance and design review comments to architects, engineers, consultants, construction managers, and contractors
- Represent owner requirements and ensure design deliverables align with project objectives, technical standards, and construction requirements
- Support development and maintenance of civil engineering standards, design guidelines, program specifications, and technical requirements
- Evaluate site constraints, permitting requirements, zoning considerations, utility availability, and constructability risks
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including real estate, design, construction, environmental, utilities, and operations stakeholders
- Review and respond to technical submittals, design changes, RFIs, and construction-related issues
- Identify risks, resolve design conflicts, and provide practical engineering recommendations to keep projects moving forward
- Support construction administration activities and provide technical input during field execution
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, design review summaries, and project documentation
- Communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and non-engineering audiences
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, land development, site development, or civil site infrastructure
- Strong experience with site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility planning, erosion control, sediment control, and earthwork
- Experience supporting projects through planning, zoning, permitting, design, construction, and closeout
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, design standards, and technical documentation
- Experience reviewing civil design drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and construction documents
- Ability to coordinate with design consultants, contractors, construction managers, municipalities, utilities, and internal project teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while managing multiple priorities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in preparing reports, presentations, design review comments, and technical documentation
- Professional Engineer license preferred
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred
- Experience with data center, mission critical, industrial, utility, infrastructure, or large-scale commercial development projects
- Familiarity with water and wastewater design, utility coordination, and hydraulic modeling
- Experience with permitting agencies, local jurisdictions, utility providers, and environmental requirements
- Strong constructability review experience and ability to identify field execution risks early in the design process
