Applied Information Sciences (AIS) is a mission-driven company focused on making a difference through innovative projects. They are seeking a Junior Information Systems Security Engineer to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure information systems in a federal environment, while collaborating with senior engineers on mission-critical systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing and maintaining system security controls in accordance with NIST SP 800-53, RMF, and agency security policies
- Support the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, including documentation, security control implementation, and system authorization activities
- Help prepare and maintain security documentation such as SSPs, POA&Ms, and security assessment reports
- Participate in security testing and vulnerability assessments, including remediation tracking
- Collaborate with system engineers, developers, and ISSOs to ensure security requirements are integrated into system designs
- Monitor system compliance and support continuous monitoring activities
- Assist in identifying and mitigating security risks and vulnerabilities
Requirements:
- 1+ year of experience in information security, cybersecurity, or related IT field
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field
- Understanding of core cybersecurity principles such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA triad)
- Familiarity with RMF, NIST standards, and security best practices
- DoD 8570/IAT Level II certification or equivalent (e.g., Security+)
- Active Top Secret clearance required
- CISSP certification (preferred) or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge of FISMA, FedRAMP, or DoD cybersecurity requirements
- Exposure to vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., ACAS, Nessus)
- Basic knowledge of networking, operating systems, and cloud security concepts
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
