The Senior Data Governance Engineer will be responsible for defining, implementing, and operationalizing enterprise data governance capabilities across various data management aspects.
Responsibilities:
- Define and implement data governance frameworks across metadata, quality, MDM, and access management
- Develop governance standards, policies, and operating procedures
- Ensure governance practices align with enterprise data architecture and cloud platform design
- Lead implementation and configuration of governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Purview, BigID, etc.)
- Integrate governance tools with AWS and Databricks data platforms for metadata, lineage, and quality capture
- Ensure seamless ingestion, processing, and reporting of governance metadata
- Define and operationalize data quality rules, validation processes, and monitoring frameworks
- Support design of data access models, entitlements, and approval workflows
- Contribute to data classification, PII/PHI protection, and security policy enforcement
- Facilitate workshops, training, and data literacy programs to drive governance adoption
- Communicate governance concepts, standards, and recommendations to business and technical teams
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and analysts to embed governance into data lifecycle processes
- Develop functional and technical specifications for governance processes and integrations
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation
- Maintain governance documentation, metadata standards, and best practices
Requirements:
- 3–6 years of experience in data governance strategy, implementation, or operationalization
- Strong knowledge of data cataloging
- Strong knowledge of data quality management
- Strong knowledge of master data management (MDM)
- Strong knowledge of data access and entitlement management
- Strong knowledge of data classification and protection (including PII/PHI)
- Hands‑on experience with governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Purview, BigID, Reltio, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with cloud‑based data platforms, especially AWS and Databricks
- Understanding of metadata models, lineage frameworks, and governance integration with data pipelines
- Knowledge of data engineering concepts (ETL/ELT, data modeling, orchestration)
- Experience integrating governance tools with cloud storage, catalogs, and compute engines
- Understanding of IAM/RBAC, data access policies, encryption, and data protection standards
- Experience defining or implementing data security classifications and access workflows
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOX)
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders and drive governance adoption across teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain governance concepts to non‑technical audiences
- Experience facilitating workshops, training sessions, and data literacy initiatives
- Ability to work in cross‑functional, fast‑paced environments
