Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare, aiming to make health data secure and accessible. They are seeking a Product Security Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing security engineering team, manage day-to-day team delivery, and ensure the execution and health of their product security platform.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of product security engineers, setting clear expectations, running regular 1:1s, and owning the professional development and performance of each team member
- Stay hands-on: contribute to architecture, design, and code reviews, and write code yourself where appropriate. At this level, your team should be able to function without you coding, but you remain an active technical contributor
- Own end-to-end delivery for your team’s product security systems, including the internal system portfolio application and related security tooling, ensuring reliability, extensibility, and operational excellence
- Define, manage, and maintain the team’s Jira backlog—scoping epics, breaking down work, tracking progress, and removing blockers to keep the team moving
- Balance your team’s workload across feature delivery, system stability, security maintenance, and technical debt in partnership with your engineering and product counterparts
- Design and implement backend services in Golang and frontend components in JavaScript/TypeScript, and maintain robust integrations with internal systems and third-party APIs
- Drive engineering quality through observability, testing strategy, CI/CD integration, and clear maintainability standards for your team
- Partner with Product, Security, Platform, and other engineering teams to ensure your systems integrate cleanly with broader organizational workflows
- Communicate clearly and consistently with your team, peer EMs, and senior leadership—setting vision, reporting on progress, and escalating risks appropriately
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude Code or similar) to accelerate development while maintaining high standards for correctness, security, and maintainability
- Own compliance, security posture, and system quality for your team’s products end-to-end, including understanding and tracking the relevant metrics to prioritize these efforts
Requirements:
- Demonstrated engineering depth across the full software development lifecycle—from architecture and implementation to production operations—combined with hands-on people management or tech lead experience that shows you can own a team's execution and health, not just your own
- Strong hands-on experience in Golang and modern TypeScript/JavaScript (SPA frameworks), with the ability to meaningfully contribute to design and code reviews—not just manage them
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize a team's work in Jira, including scoping epics, tracking delivery, and maintaining a healthy, well-ordered backlog
- Experience owning and balancing competing workstreams: feature development, reliability, security obligations, and technical debt across a multi-product team
- Strong experience designing, deploying, and operating production systems in AWS, with practical knowledge of core services (e.g., EKS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, CloudWatch), networking, and least-privilege access patterns
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform or similar) to provision and manage cloud resources
- Demonstrated ability to design and maintain API integrations across heterogeneous internal and external systems
- Clear communication skills and the ability to manage up, across, and down—keeping your team, peers, and leadership aligned
- A track record of holding your team accountable to quality, security, and delivery expectations while also coaching and developing individual engineers
- Comfort operating with limited day-to-day guidance from your manager while proactively surfacing risks, decisions, and recommendations
- Experience building or operating CMDB-like systems, asset inventory platforms, or internal developer platforms
- Familiarity with security ecosystems, system inventory, or exposure/secrets-related data domains
- Prior experience as a Tech Lead & Manager (TL&M), where you balanced technical ownership with people management responsibilities
- Experience working in environments with strong compliance or security requirements where correctness, auditability, and traceability are non-negotiable
- A history of building internal platforms that other engineering teams depend on—and designing for usability, adoption, and long-term extensibility
- Demonstrated effective use of AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, or automate repetitive engineering tasks
- Experience working in highly integrated environments where a single system serves as a source of truth for multiple organizational workflows
