Oracle is a leading company in AI and cloud solutions that impact billions of lives. They are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of mechanical systems for data centers, ensuring reliability and performance while fostering innovation in mechanical solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the implementation of energy efficient solutions to optimize design of heat rejection systems and minimize losses
- Spearheads the evaluation of, provides consultation on the efficiency of, and evaluates build programs
- Distills and articulates architectural tradeoffs in terms of key metrics (e.g., feasibility, performance, cost, risk, and schedule) to drive upgrades to efficiency
- Leverages deep, cross-functional knowledge to lead team activity
- Drives the next generation of mechanical designs for OCIs GW scale delivery
- Drives the delivery of infrastructure capacity for Oracle Cloud
- Architects solutions to enable capacity across cloud offerings
- Drives the design of data center critical infrastructure for Oracle Cloud
- Empowers collaboration with internal stakeholders to deliver project design criteria and develop Basis of Design
- Strengthens partnership with hardware development teams to drive the design direction/definition of roadmap, and drive concepts onto roadmap and into OCI fleet
- Influences collaboration with the hardware development, data center design, and construction teams to ensure seamless transition from architecture to implementation
- Manages the development and management of advanced cooling solutions
- Ensures response to data center build and construction related emergencies as needed
- Oversees design and debug investigations and support failure analysis and resolution activities
- Leads the research of new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center equipment and related components, including site and building
- Spearheads the identification of and monitors the need for new tools to improve the quality of data and analytics
- Architects and evaluates new power and advanced cooling technologies that enable the delivery of artificial intelligence (AI) products and other technologies driving up density and performance in data centers
- Drives the development of optimal components and solutions for future OCI fleet requirements by partners (e.g., technology providers and design partners)
- Spearheads the identification of opportunities to generate intellectual property to help strengthen OCI's position as a leader in Cloud Computing
- Drives the development of OCI data center facilities requirements documentation
- Oversees product evaluation
- Ensures that quality benchmarks are upheld for new sites, regions, and/or deployments
- Drives implementation of updates to design standards and specifications for consistency, maximum system reliability and optimal facility utilization
- Monitors adherence to global data center infrastructure standards
- Ensures adherence to whitespace design standards
- Leads communication and collaboration with third-party vendors (e.g., data center lease providers, equipment manufacturers), internal cross-functional stakeholders, and data center engineering organizational team
- Ensures the translation of team needs into program goals
- Leads the prioritization of deliverables based on OCI priorities and industry/historical
Requirements:
- 6 to 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Experience in the design and development of mechanical systems including components, enclosures, and packaging
- Proficiency in advanced computer aided design (CAD) tools
- Experience in mechanical strength and reliability testing of materials and components
- Ability to define protocols for testing and reliability assessments
- Experience leading high impact mechanical engineering initiatives
- Knowledge of energy efficient solutions for heat rejection systems
- Experience in evaluating build programs and architectural tradeoffs
- Ability to drive the design of data center critical infrastructure
- Experience in collaborating with internal stakeholders and hardware development teams
- Ability to manage advanced cooling solutions
