Five-Star AudioVisual designs and delivers complex industrial systems and engineered solutions to enhance operational efficiency. The Project Design Engineer is responsible for creating detailed engineering designs for industrial equipment and systems, collaborating with various teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure effective execution and compliance with safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed mechanical and system designs for industrial equipment and related processes
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, layouts, bills of material, and specifications using CAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent software
- Ensure designs comply with company standards, applicable codes, and safety requirements
- Design solutions that are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective
- Provide technical input during proposal development and customer discussions
- Assist with conceptual layouts, budgetary designs, scope definitions, and technical clarifications
- Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and technical reviews as required
- Collaborate with Project Management and Scheduling teams to support a smooth transition from design to fabrication, installation, and commissioning
- Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are practical and ready for execution
- Provide technical support during installation, startup, and troubleshooting activities
- Maintain accurate project documentation, revision control, and engineering records
- Evaluate design changes for cost, schedule, and technical impact
- Communicate design updates clearly to project stakeholders
- Assist with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for project and field issues
- Identify opportunities for standardization, design improvements, and operational efficiencies
- Share lessons learned and best practices across teams
- Promote safe work practices in all engineering activities
- Ensure designs align with applicable regulations, standards, and company quality requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3–7+ years of experience in industrial, mechanical, systems, or equipment design preferred
- Experience supporting engineered-to-order products, industrial equipment, manufacturing operations, or capital projects preferred
- Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 20–40%)
- Proficiency with CAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent design software
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment design, and industrial operations
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and field installation practices
- Familiarity with applicable safety and regulatory requirements
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to internal teams and customers
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across multiple functions
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to interpret technical data, drawings, and specifications
- Sound judgment in evaluating design trade-offs related to cost, schedule, and performance
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
- Ability to travel to customer and project sites as required
- Ability to work safely in manufacturing, construction, and industrial environments
- 3–7+ years of experience in industrial, mechanical, systems, or equipment design
- Experience supporting engineered-to-order products, industrial equipment, manufacturing operations, or capital projects
- Experience with ERP systems, project management software, or document control systems is a plus
