Atlas Connections has partnered with a vertically integrated mission-critical infrastructure company to find a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will lead the mechanical design and controls of cooling systems for complex, hyperscale data center projects. This role involves developing mechanical system designs, performing calculations, and coordinating with various engineering disciplines to ensure efficient cooling solutions for data centers.
Responsibilities:
- Develop mechanical system designs for data center cooling, including airflow, chilled water, refrigerant, and HVAC systems
- Perform heat load and energy calculations, and analyze energy performance across projects to drive efficiency
- Size and select major mechanical equipment such as chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, cooling towers, pumps, and air handlers
- Produce construction documents, schematics, and specifications, and develop sequences of operation for controls
- Build and coordinate Revit models with electrical, structural, and controls disciplines, including clash detection and BIM coordination
- Interpret design concepts with engineering staff and translate documentation, quotes, and drawings into buildable cooling designs
- Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings, and revise designs as change orders and client needs evolve
- Coordinate and support commissioning, including factory witness testing where needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
- Active PE certification
- Direct data center experience, ideally supporting hyperscale clients
- 6+ years across mechanical design, project planning, construction, and commissioning
- Strong HVAC systems and controls background, including equipment selection and sizing
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Procore
- Proven experience leading design across multiple buildings
- A producer mindset with the appetite to grow into team leadership
- Master's degree
- CEM or LEED certification
