Fuze Health is dedicated to improving healthcare by empowering patients and providers through technology. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the architectural evolution and technical strategy of their digital pharmacy platforms, influencing how millions access vital medications.
Responsibilities:
- Define the long-term technical vision and architectural roadmap for FuzeRx’s B2B and consumer platforms
- Drive decisions around microservices design, API design, database schemas, and data pipelines
- Lead by example by writing clean, highly optimized, and maintainable code for critical system components
- Establish engineering standards, champion rigorous code reviews, and advocate for modern testing practices
- Own the reliability and performance of our core platforms
- Diagnose and resolve complex systemic issues, optimize heavy PostgreSQL workloads, and architect high-throughput infrastructure on AWS
- Act as a technical consultant and mentor to engineers across multiple squads
- Break down ambiguous, massive technical problems into actionable execution phases that junior and senior engineers can successfully deliver
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Pharmacy Operations, and Engineering Managers to evaluate technical feasibility, de-risk complex roadmaps, and align technology choices with business objectives
- Architect systems with privacy by design
- Ensure our codebase, data-at-rest, and data-in-transit adhere strictly to healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, SOC2), safeguarding sensitive patient data
- Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and patterns
- Build prototypes and proofs-of-concept (POCs) to derisk new initiatives before they are rolled out to the wider engineering team
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Technical Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 3+ years acting as a Tech Lead, Architect, or Staff Engineer designing complex, distributed systems
- Tools & Tech Stack: Expert-level mastery in at least one core language (Ruby on Rails or Python) and deep proficiency with PostgreSQL, TypeScript/JavaScript, and AWS cloud infrastructure (e.g., ECS, RDS, Lambda, VPC)
- System Design Expertise: Proven track record of designing, building, and scaling high-volume API-led transactional or logistical platforms
- Communication & Influence: Exceptional ability to articulate complex architectural trade-offs to both highly technical engineers and non-technical stakeholders (e.g., clinical, product, and operational leaders)
- Shift / Site Specific Requirements: Standard business hours; available for critical tier-3 escalation architecture support if needed
- Education: Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
- Industry & Domain Experience: Prior engineering experience within Pharmacy Tech, Digital Health, or highly regulated FinTech/HealthTech environments
- Healthcare Interoperability: Deep understanding of healthcare data standards, pharmacy management systems, or electronic health record (EHR) integrations
- Measurable Impact: Proven track record of successfully leading major architecture modernization projects (e.g., monolith-to-services migrations, database overhauls) with zero-downtime within an AWS ecosystem
