Vertiv is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Design to lead the mechanical architecture and system integration of next-generation rack- and row-based infrastructure solutions supporting high-density compute and AI-driven data center applications. In this role, you will own the mechanical design and integration strategy across complex systems, ensuring scalable, manufacturable, and high-performance designs from concept through production.
Responsibilities:
- Own the mechanical architecture for rack- and row-based systems, including containment and wall-mount solutions
- Define and manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, and thermal subsystems
- Ensure system-level integration meets requirements for performance, safety, and compliance
- Develop 3D CAD models and detailed mechanical designs (Creo preferred)
- Perform and coordinate FEA analysis, stress, and physical validation testing
- Ensure designs meet form, fit, function, and manufacturability requirements
- Drive compliance with applicable industry standards and regional codes
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional design reviews
- Collaborate with product management, electrical/thermal engineering, and manufacturing teams
- Provide engineering guidance during factory integration and production
- Mentor and support development of junior engineers
- Contribute to and refine Vertiv’s design standards and 'playbook'
- Identify and implement improvements in system interoperability, serviceability, and scalability
- Stay current on emerging technologies in data center infrastructure and mechanical design
- Support pre-sales activities, including solution development and technical presentations
- Partner with procurement and suppliers on component selection and sourcing
- Manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design for complex systems or new product development
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo preferred or similar tools)
- Experience working with integrated mechanical systems (structures, enclosures, assemblies)
- Solid understanding of design for manufacturability, reliability, and performance
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience in IT infrastructure, power systems, or thermal systems
- Familiarity with FEA tools and validation testing methodologies
- Working knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., ASME, ASHRAE, IEC, ISO)
- Experience supporting system integration, factory builds, or customer deployments
