HKA Enterprises is seeking an experienced Life Safety Systems / Fire Alarm Engineer to support the design and delivery of mission-critical facilities, including data centers. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for life safety, fire alarm, and fire protection systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary assessments and develop life safety system concepts
- Lead the design of fire alarm, fire detection, smoke control, and fire protection systems
- Coordinate with engineering teams, BIM designers, subject matter experts, and project stakeholders
- Produce construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation
- Design code-compliant life safety and fire mitigation solutions
- Serve as Engineer of Record on assigned projects
- Interface directly with clients, contractors, vendors, and code officials
- Prepare equipment sizing calculations, system layouts, and network diagrams
- Develop construction deliverables utilizing 2D and 3D design platforms
- Support internal and external problem resolution efforts
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining project schedules and deliverables
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff
- Support project estimating, scheduling, and resource planning activities
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Experience designing Fire Alarm Systems and associated manufacturer equipment
- Experience with VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) systems
- Knowledge of: International Building Code (IBC)
- Knowledge of: International Fire Code (IFC)
- Knowledge of: NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
- Knowledge of: NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
- Knowledge and application of: NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
- Knowledge and application of: Electrical design requirements
- Knowledge of general construction and design specifications
- Experience leading projects and managing resources
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Minimum of 4 years of Autodesk Revit experience
- Experience designing life safety systems for data centers or mission-critical facilities
- Knowledge of: NFPA 13
- Knowledge of: NFPA 75
- Knowledge of: NFPA 76
- Knowledge of: NFPA 2001
- Experience with fire suppression systems, gas detection systems, and smoke modeling
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and designers
- Experience estimating and scheduling mid-to-large-scale engineering projects
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record
