Senior Software Engineer II, AI Enablement

Symetra is a national financial services company dedicated to helping people achieve their financial goals. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the delivery of high-quality AI solutions, design core capabilities and APIs, and mentor engineering teams within their AI Enablement team.

Responsibilities:

• Lead delivery of secure, high-quality, performant code, and build reusable solutions for others to use
• Drive design: define patterns, run design reviews, and shape our architecture
• Improve how we test, automate, and deliver code
• Strengthen security, performance, and reliability, and lead root-cause analysis on production issues
• Mentor other engineers on the team

Requirements:

• An experienced engineer with a track record of leading delivery and shaping design within a team
• Built and operated production services and APIs
• Hands-on with cloud infrastructure on AWS (preferred) or Google Cloud, especially containerized workloads
• Advanced problem-solving and communication; comfortable working directly with stakeholders
• Use AI coding agents effectively in your day-to-day work, with the judgment to know when to use them and when not to
• Built LLM-powered applications (prompting, retrieval/RAG, evaluations, agents, MCP)
• Familiarity with AWS Bedrock or other model-hosting platforms
• Infrastructure-as-code with AWS CDK
• Frontend development with TypeScript and React
• Document-processing, OCR, or data-extraction experience
