Remote- Cybersecurity Engineer/IT Security Specialist

Apetan Consulting LLC is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer/IT Security Specialist for a 12-month contract. This role is responsible for protecting the organization's information systems and networks from cyber threats through monitoring, vulnerability assessments, and incident response.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and analyze security alerts, logs, and events to detect suspicious activity
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts
• Implement and maintain security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and endpoint protection
• Respond to and investigate security incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, NIST, PCI, GDPR)
• Perform regular risk assessments and recommend improvements to strengthen security posture
• Support access management, including provisioning, deprovisioning, and periodic access reviews
• Collaborate with IT and business teams to ensure secure system design and implementations
• Develop and maintain security documentation, procedures, and incident response plans
• Provide security awareness training and guidance to employees

Requirements:

• Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field
• 3 5+ years of experience in IT security or related roles
• Strong understanding of network security, operating systems, and security frameworks
• Experience with security tools (SIEM, antivirus, EDR, vulnerability scanners)
• Knowledge of threat detection, incident response, and risk management practices
• Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and handle security incidents
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Knowledge of scripting (Python, PowerShell) is a plus
