
TxDOT's Austin District is looking for one Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech II or III) based in Austin, TX. This position will perform routine work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection, routine and contract maintenance inspection, bridge inspection and record keeping, roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, assisting the public during emergency situations, and training other employees.

You may qualify for a one-time recruitment bonus up to $5,000 if you have a Class “A” CDL License (preferably with no transmission restrictions) at time of hire. You must maintain 12-month of continuous employment with TxDOT and meet all other conditions. This position performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Experience:
Roadway Maintenance Tech I (TMT I) = No experience required
Roadway Maintenance Tech II (TMT II) = 1 year experience*
Roadway Maintenance Tech III (TMT III) = 2 years experience*
*Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications:
Currently Military or Veterans: US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class “A” CDL within 120 days of employment (or whatever number of days deemed appropriate, I.e., 30, or 60 days).
