Senior Software Engineer (Contract, AI Integrations)

North Star Labs is a company that focuses on delivering software solutions through small teams of senior engineers. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who can lead engagements, manage client relationships, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software, particularly in regulated industries.

Responsibilities:

• A lead role within an engagement. Architecture to deployment, usually as the senior voice in the room with the client
• The client relationship. You take a vague business problem and turn it into shipped software
• Getting it right. A lot of our work is regulated - HIPAA, financial data - where "mostly works" isn't a thing
• The AI tooling that makes all of this fast (Claude Code, LangSmith, whatever fits). You move quick, but you own what ships

Requirements:

• You've shipped AI in production. Real LLM-powered features, pipelines, or products. You know where these tools are great and where they're not
• You've owned something end to end - ideally something you built yourself. We care more about that than your resume
• Real system design. You can reason about tradeoffs and gather requirements needed to design a good system for the use case
• You communicate. Clearly, in writing and out loud. This one is critical for this role
• Range across the stack - Python, Go, TypeScript, SQL. You grab whatever the problem needs
• Hands-on Azure, especially AI Foundry. A lot of what's coming runs on Azure, so this moves you to the top of the pile
• AWS production experience
• You've done client-facing or consulting work somewhere regulated
