The UVA VEC is seeking experienced Network Engineers to contribute to an innovative AI and autonomous infrastructure initiative. In this role, you will apply your expertise in network troubleshooting and data management to help organize and structure networking data for training AI systems.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze real-world network data, including logs, configurations, telemetry, and event streams
- Identify, classify, and annotate network behaviors, incidents, anomalies, and performance patterns
- Support the development of structured datasets used for AI and machine learning applications
- Review production network events and contribute insights based on troubleshooting expertise
- Assist in defining data schemas and labeling standards for large-scale infrastructure datasets
- Collaborate directly with engineering and research teams to improve data quality and consistency
- Document findings and provide technical recommendations based on observed network behavior
Requirements:
- Current experience as a Level 3, Tier 3, Principal Support, or Senior Network Engineer
- Proven expertise in network troubleshooting, incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and escalation management
- Hands-on experience supporting enterprise networking environments
- Strong knowledge of switches, wireless access points, firewalls, routing, and network infrastructure
- Experience supporting customers across industries such as healthcare, finance, retail, manufacturing, hospitality, or education
- Ability to interpret network logs, packet captures, and telemetry data
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Interest in AI, machine learning, and data-driven infrastructure systems
- Experience working with large-scale networking environments
- Familiarity with network automation, observability platforms, or cloud networking
- Exposure to data annotation, classification, or analytics projects
- Strong documentation and technical communication skills
