We’re on the hunt for a sharp, confident Strategic Advisor who can hit the ground running and keep our corporate planning engine moving during a 12 month parental leave cover. If you thrive in a small, high performing team and love work that genuinely shapes how a Council delivers for its community, this role will feel like home.
You’ll be right at the centre of our major planning and reporting commitments, working closely with the Team Lead - Corporate, Strategy & Compliance to keep everything running smoothly. From the Annual Report and Long Term Plan to non financial performance measures and audit processes, you’ll be the steady hand ensuring deadlines are met, quality stays high, and our strategic direction remains clear.
This fixed term period is all about practical delivery. You’ll lead the drafting and quality checking of the Annual Report, support key components of the Long Term Plan, and take charge of the operational delivery of non financial performance measures gathering data, working with teams across Council, preparing audit responses, and shaping reports that matter. You’ll help drive timely audit processes, coordinate LTP consultation with our engagement and communications teams, and run the hearings process, including preparing submissions and leading thematic analysis to inform Council’s decision making.
You’ll bring a strong understanding of local government legislation and planning cycles, experience in the public sector, and confidence navigating audit and performance reporting environments. You’re organised, calm under pressure, and known for your attention to detail. You write clearly and purposefully, build strong relationships, and bring professionalism, integrity, and a positive presence to every interaction. If you understand the LTP and Annual Report landscape, even better.
We also know great people don’t always fit into one box. Flexible working is part of how we operate, and for the right person, part time hours could absolutely be an option.
And with Rotorua as your backdrop, you’ll enjoy a lifestyle that blends lakeside calm with a vibrant, welcoming community.
