
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to ensure a high quality Respiratory Therapy program by providing oversight, administration, teaching and advisement for the Respiratory Therapy and program. The Chair is responsible for providing effective leadership, ongoing program planning, program assessment, continuous improvement, and fiscal management. The position will include .75 FTE teaching responsibility and .25 FTE program administration responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides effective leadership and guidance in all areas of the program, including policy and procedure development, accreditation and retention efforts, building and maintaining partnerships for clinical/learning experiences and with contracting agencies and individuals.
Supervise the Coordinator of Clinical Education (DCE) and all faculty in the program.
Actively participates in recruiting and program admissions processes, striving to maintain optimal enrollment.
Ensures program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration and delivery options by participating in ongoing program planning, assessment and continuous quality improvement.
Develops the annual budget and monitors expenditures. Communicates variances to appropriate management.
Coordinates and supervises faculty, adjunct faculty, and guest speakers.
Develops and administers academic and clinical policies and procedures within the program.
Develops, updates and evaluates program and course curriculum and resources.
Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
Hires, develops, trains, and motivates faculty to ensure optimal performance. Provides regular feedback, including the annual performance evaluation.
Educates faculty, adjunct faculty, and clinical sites regarding curriculum requirements for student learning.
Develops criteria and procedures for clinical site selection, utilization, and assessment as per program and University requirements.
Teaches, supervises and evaluates students’ academic, skill laboratory, clinical and field performance. Serves as liaison between students and clinical staff.
Provides individual advisement and guidance for intellectual and professional development of students.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Meet KPI’s as assigned by Provost.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current Iowa license
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for student of such programs
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Course work in instructional methodologies, evaluation and assessment preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development preferred.
Ability to complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program (as applicable)
