About the Program:
Psychology registrars are an integral part of Forensicare’s commitment to progressing the discipline in public mental health for forensic mental health services. The Psychology Registrar Program is designed to provide structured, supported opportunities for qualified, entry-level registered psychologists working toward an Area of Practice Endorsement (in clinical and / or forensic psychology) to gain forensic mental health expertise and consolidate clinical skills and knowledge in a range of forensic settings.
Program Length:12-24 months dependent on specific AHPRA requirements
Rotation: 6-12 monthly rotations across Thomas Embling Hospital, Community and Prisons
Education: Monthly education sessions throughout the program + access to an internal training calendar for the department
About the Role:
We are seeking passionate Psychology Registrars to join our structured Registrar Program, designed to support psychologists working toward endorsement in Clinical and Forensic Psychology.
You will work under the supervision of experienced and Board-approved psychologists, delivering high-quality psychological services to adults in forensic mental health settings. This role offers rotational placements across inpatient and community services, providing exposure to diverse clinical environments and complex presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver comprehensive psychological services including assessment, formulation, and intervention
• Conduct specialist psychological assessments and prepare high-quality clinical reports
• Design and facilitate evidence-based individual and group treatment programs
• Contribute to risk assessment and risk management planning
• Provide consultation to multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders
• Support recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, person-centred care
• Participate actively in the Psychology Registrar Program, including supervision and structured learning
• Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to clinical handovers
About You
We are looking for candidates who are committed to excellence in forensic mental health and professional development.
Essential Requirements:
• General registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)
• Completion of APAC-accredited postgraduate training (Masters or Doctorate) in:
◦ Clinical Psychology, and/or
◦ Forensic Psychology.
• Eligibility to undertake a registrar program leading to Area of Practice Endorsement
• Demonstrated skills in psychological assessment, including psychometric testing
• Experience delivering psychological interventions (individual and/or group)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
