Your Role
There is no typical working week at Flybuys. But here are some of the things you will be working on, day-to-day;
Platform Engineering Leadership
- Set the technical direction for the AI platform, defining the standards, patterns and implementation approaches that enable safe and scalable AI delivery
- Own the design and evolution of core platform capabilities, including runtime services, orchestration, deployment pipelines and reusable engineering components
- Provide senior technical leadership across platform and AI use case design, making pragmatic trade-offs across speed, quality, cost, security and long-term maintainability
Platform Delivery & Operations
- Lead the build and operation of AI platform services, ensuring they are reliable, performant, supportable and ready for production adoption
- Lead the engineering delivery of internal AI agents and priority AI use cases, establishing repeatable approaches for build, evaluation, deployment, adoption and continuous improvement
- Establish practical engineering and release practices that increase delivery pace while preserving governance, security and operational discipline
- Create reusable services, patterns and playbooks that make AI use case onboarding faster, safer and easier for other teams to adopt
Cost, Value & Observability
- Provide clear visibility of platform cost across infrastructure, model usage, vendor services and support activity
- Establish monitoring, logging and performance reporting that support service quality, operational confidence and continuous improvement
- Connect platform investment and engineering priorities to measurable business value, productivity uplift and delivery outcomes
Security, Governance & Risk
- Ensure platform design and operations meet Flybuys security, architecture, data protection and responsible AI expectations
- Identify delivery, operational and technology risks early, and put pragmatic controls in place before they impact outcomes
- Partner with Architecture, Security and Data teams to ensure platform decisions are well governed and aligned to enterprise direction
Technical Leadership & Team Guidance
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership to a small team, including the AI Engineer and AI Platform Engineer
- Mentor engineers through hands-on design, build, review and problem solving, setting a high bar for engineering craft
- Represent the function in planning, governance and delivery forums with clear technical advice on progress, risk, decisions and trade-offs
- Establish engineering standards and patterns that are practical, reusable and trusted across the organisation
- Work with engineering peers to solve common problems, improve shared practices and lift capability beyond the immediate team
- Contribute to a strong engineering culture that values quality, ownership, learning and practical delivery impact
Your Experience
- Proven experience as a senior engineering leader in complex software, platform or product environments
- Deep hands-on background building distributed systems, cloud-native services, deployment pipelines and reusable engineering platforms
- Experience with AI platforms, agentic systems, orchestration frameworks, workflow automation or modern developer platform capabilities
- Strong understanding of quality assurance and testing approaches for agentic services
- Ability to lead, mentor and influence engineers through technical credibility rather than formal people-management authority alone
- Strong engineering judgement, stakeholder confidence and commercial awareness, with the ability to make pragmatic trade-offs
- Experience in loyalty, retail, digital product, financial services or similarly scaled ecosystems is desirable
