Red Hat OpenShift Architect (Contract )
Location: College Park, MD 20740
Work Authorization:
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Red Hat OpenShift Architect to lead the design, implementation, and operationalization of a scalable, secure container platform. The Architect will define enterprise reference architectures and standards, lead migrations of workloads (including VMware VMs into OpenShift OVE), build OKE clusters for application modernization, and ensure platform compliance with federal security requirements. This role provides technical leadership, mentorship, and handson guidance to engineering and DevOps teams and government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available Red Hat OpenShift platforms (OVE and OKE).
- Define enterprise reference architectures, standards, patterns, and governance for container platforms and containerized workloads.
- Lead multi-cluster design, cluster sizing, capacity planning, performance tuning, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Plan and execute migration strategies for legacy apps and VMware VMs into OpenShift OVE; design OKE clusters for container modernization.
- Evaluate hybrid, multi-cloud, and onprem infrastructure options and recommend designs that meet performance, availability, and cost targets.
- Ensure platform and deployment designs meet Federal security and compliance requirements (e.g., NIST 800-53, FedRAMP).
- Establish observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting best practices for the container platform.
- Create and maintain high-level and low-level architecture artifacts: diagrams, roadmaps, runbooks, and implementation plans.
- Serve as escalation point for complex platform issues and lead architectural decision-making.
- Mentor and transfer knowledge to junior/mid-level engineers and government staff; drive DevOps-aligned practices.
- Collaborate with security, networking, identity, and infrastructure teams to integrate platform services (IAM, secrets management, network segmentation).
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen.
- Proven experience as an OpenShift Architect, Platform Architect, or equivalent, with deep expertise in Red Hat OpenShift architecture and operations.
- Strong experience with OpenShift Virtualization (OVE/OpenShift Virtualization/KubeVirt) and migrating VMware workloads into OpenShift.
- Hands-on experience designing and operating multi-cluster OpenShift deployments and OKE (Oracle Kubernetes Engine) clusters.
- Advanced Kubernetes knowledge (internals, networking, ingress, service meshes, operators/CRDs, stateful workloads).
- Experience with cluster sizing, capacity planning, performance tuning, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and on-prem VMware environments; hybrid and multi-cloud architecture experience.
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
- Strong platform observability and logging experience (Prometheus, Grafana, EFK/ELK or equivalent).
- Solid security background: zero-trust principles, container image scanning, secrets management, RBAC, network policies, identity integration (LDAP/AD/SSO).
- Demonstrated experience implementing or working within federal compliance frameworks (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OKE/Oracle Cloud infrastructure and migrations.
- Prior experience supporting federal/government agencies or regulated environments.
- Experience with service meshes (Istio, Linkerd), CNI plugins (Calico, Cilium), and platform governance tools.
- Certifications such as Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration / Red Hat Certified Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or equivalent.
