Position Purpose:

Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care
Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
Quality of Care
The technologist provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
Comply with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.

Preferences
Education: Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Special Position Requirements
Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals
