SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, functionality, and maintenance of mechanical products and manufacturing processes. The role involves interpreting technical drawings and collaborating closely with manufacturing and operations teams.
Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between engineering and LMT assembly areas to identify and communicate manufacturing and assembly issues
- Document engineering issues through Assembly Quality Events (AQE), Built-In Quality (BIQ), and Continuous Improvement (CI) processes
- Drive resolution of issues by coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams
- Support creation and updates of machine-level documentation including general arrangement drawings, paint and lube prints, test instructions, and BOM updates
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) prototype and pilot builds
- Participate in shop floor Voice of Customer (VOC) meetings
- Create and process engineering deviations for design or manufacturing issues
- Conduct occasional Pre-Delivery Audits (PDA), including inspections, torque checks, issue documentation, and reporting
- Respond to shop floor engineering issues
- Manage AQEs assigned to engineering
- Communicate with manufacturing, quality, and design teams to resolve issues
- Participate in weekly AQE, BIQ, and warranty review meetings
- Collaborate with engineers via email, Teams chats, calls, and meetings
Requirements:
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
- New Product Introduction (NPI) experience
- Associate's degree in Manufacturing or Engineering discipline AND 0–2 years of experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Engineering discipline AND 0–2 years of experience
- 0–2 years of overall experience (including internships and academic projects)
- 0–2 years of machine assembly or manufacturing/process experience
- Basic understanding of GD&T
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Power BI preferred
- Exposure to machine design, process design, or engineering coordination activities
- Familiarity with tools/systems such as PRWB, Tableau (AQE views), Decatur Web Apps, MES, AQE access tools, ETQ Reliance (Deviation management), CPI-BIQ, I-Cubed, CI processes, and Parts Discovery tools
- Experience with NPI and BIQ processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage shifting priorities in a team environment
- Quick learner with strong adaptability
- Willingness to work on the shop floor daily with operations teams
- Experience with VisView and/or Teamcenter
- Strong problem-solving skills with a level-headed approach
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
