Snowflake Migration Data Architect
Onsite in Burbank CA
9 Months Contract
Summary
Seeking a Senior level Data Analyst/Data Architect to support a critical enterprise data migration initiative, transitioning our data platform from Microsoft SQL Server to Snowflake. This resource will design scalable data architectures, build robust migration pipelines, and enable modern self-service analytics through Tableau and Power BI. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cloud data warehousing, ETL/ELT engineering, and business intelligence.
Responsibilities
Migration Architecture & Design
Lead end-to-end source-to-target mapping design for the SQL Server to Snowflake migration, including schema analysis, data profiling, and transformation logic documentation
Architect Snowflake environments including database/schema structures, virtual warehouses, role-based access control (RBAC), and resource monitors
Design and document data flow diagrams, lineage maps, and migration runbooks to ensure traceability and auditability throughout the migration lifecycle
Define standards for naming conventions, data types, partitioning strategies, clustering keys, and time-travel/fail-safe policies in Snowflake
ETL/ELT Development & Scripting
Write and optimize complex T-SQL scripts to extract and transform data from SQL Server sources for ingestion into Snowflake
Develop Snowflake SQL scripts, stored procedures, tasks, streams, and dynamic tables to implement transformation logic and incremental load patterns
Build and maintain ELT pipelines leveraging tools such as dbt, Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, or Informatica for automated data movement
Implement data validation and reconciliation scripts to verify source vs. target row counts, aggregates, and business rules post-migration
Tune query performance in Snowflake through execution plan analysis, clustering optimization, and materialized view strategies
Data Modeling & Governance
Design and maintain dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas), OBT structures, and data vault patterns appropriate for Snowflake's architecture
Collaborate with data stewards and business stakeholders to define data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata standards
Establish data quality frameworks and implement automated profiling, anomaly detection, and SLA monitoring
BI Reporting & Visualization
Design and develop Tableau dashboards and published data sources connected to Snowflake, optimizing live and extract connections for performance
Build Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards with DAX measures, row-level security, and deployment pipelines
Translate business requirements into semantic layer designs (e.g., Tableau Published Data Sources, Power BI datasets) to enable self-service analytics
Collaborate with analysts and business users to validate reporting outputs against source systems and ensure data accuracy
Stakeholder Collaboration & Documentation
Partner with data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence teams to ensure seamless handoffs and alignment throughout the migration lifecycle
Produce comprehensive technical documentation including mapping specifications, architecture decision records (ADRs), and operational runbooks
Present migration status, risks, and architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders including senior leadership
