CRH's Americas Materials, a division of CRH, is the leading vertically integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete and paving and construction services in North America. Our operations span North America with over 28,000 employees at close to 1,600 locations in 43 US States and 2 Canadian provinces.
Position Overview
The Division VP of Health, Safety and Environmental is a hands-on, field‑oriented player‑coach role that drives step‑change improvement in safety performance by influencing leaders, coaching frontline teams, and leading change where work happens.
This role is less about serving as an enterprise policy steward and more about making safety real, practical, and lived every day across operations. The leader sets clear expectations aligned with CRH and AMAT standards, but wins through presence, credibility, and the ability to move the organization forward. This position reports to the Division President.

- Act as a consistent, credible presence in plants, yards, and jobsites
- Coach leaders to own safety as part of running the business
- Model expected behaviors and build leadership capability at all levels
Culture & Performance Improvement
- Lead safety as a behavior-driven culture, not a compliance exercise
- Challenge legacy practices and close gaps between expectations and execution
- Translate incidents and trends into meaningful learning and behavior change
Practical Standards & Risk Focus
- Ensure HSE standards are clear, simplified, and effectively applied
- Focus the organization on highest-risk exposures (e.g., energy isolation, transportation, slips/trips/falls)
- Drive consistency while maintaining operational practicality
Execution Discipline & Leading Indicators
- Establish a safety operating rhythm with clear accountability and follow-through
- Prioritize meaningful leading indicators (field engagement, pre-task planning, fatigue risk)
- Use data to drive insight, decisions, and action—not reporting volume
Leadership Capability & Integration
- Develop supervisors and managers to strengthen safety ownership
- Position safety teams as coaches and enablers to the business
- Embed safety into onboarding, leadership development, and performance management
Serious Risk & Incident Leadership
- Maintain strong focus on serious injury and fatality prevention
- Lead high-potential incident response and ensure rapid, practical learning
- Strengthen emergency preparedness and response capability

- Lead HSE strategy, programs, and performance across the division
- Oversee compliance, incident management, audits, and regulatory relationships
- Support acquisitions and integrations with a practical, field-based approach
