Aloha Nursing Rehab Centre is a Kaneohe-based Skilled
Nursing and Long Term Care facility. The primary purpose of this role is to act as the front-line
caregiver to our residents to ensure their comfort and safety by assisting
them with activities of daily living, such as grooming, bathing, eating, and
mobility. Under the supervision of licensed nurses (RNs/LPNs), this position also
provides simple, technical nursing services.
CNA Shift times:
Day shift: 6 am - 2:30 pm
Eve shift: 2 pm - 10:30 pm
Overshift/Noc shift: 10 pm - 6:30 pm
Essential Job Duties include:
Assist with mouth and denture care
Bathe residents, shampoo hair, shave male residents, trim nails and provide
hair care
Ensure residents are properly and comfortably clothed at all times
Make beds and change linens as necessary for proper infection control
measures
Assist residents with meals, assist with before and after meal care (e.g.,
hand washing)
Assist residents to and from the bathroom
Prepare residents for tests, visits, treatments, activities and therapies as
directed
Perform personal services for residents within reason, such as reading,
operating television or radio, or whatever possible that will promote
comfort, security and rehabilitation
Scholarships are available for exemplary candidates who are interested in
going through a CNA training program. High School Diploma or equivalent
desired.
Job Duties:
• Arrives on assigned unit promptly as
scheduled. Completes “walking rounds” with off-going Nursing Assistant to
assure smooth transition of care from one shift to the next. Receives pertinent
information from the supervisor. Checks residents’ schedules for the shift.
This would include appointments, therapy, beauty/barber shop, activities,
restorative services, physicians’ visits, etc.
• Assists with mouth and denture care. Bathes residents, shampoos hair, shaves
male residents, trims nails and provides hair care
• Ensures that residents are properly and comfortably clothed at all times.
This includes proper footwear and a sweater if necessary. A lap blanket should
be provided, especially for female residents, while up in a chair
• Makes beds and changes linen as often as necessary. Sets rooms in order.
Participates in unit cleaning duties as directed
• Assists residents with meals. Assists with before and after meal care (e.g.,
handwashing, oral care, etc.). Transports residents to and from dining area.
Monitors and records residents’ intake. Offers substitutes if a resident
refuses to eat. Informs supervisor if a resident eats less than 50 percent of a
meal. Serves residents in between meal nourishments. Offers fresh water and
other fluids throughout the shift
• Assists residents to and from the bathroom, offers bedpans or urinals, and
keeps incontinent residents clean, dry and odor-free
• Prepares residents for tests, visits, treatments, activities and therapies as
directed
• Performs personal services for residents within reason, such as reading,
operating television or radio, or whatever possible that will promote comfort,
security and rehabilitation
• Assists in residents’ admissions, transfers and discharges. Obtains and
records vital signs. Measures and records intake and output. Assist in the
collection of specimens such as urine, stool or sputum as directed by the
supervisor. Assists in dressing changes, applying binders and slings. Empties,
cleans and applies colostomy bags. Assists nurses in examining residents and
administering treatments. Resident inventory list on admission. Obtains vital
signs, weight and reweighs as assigned
• Utilizes proper hand washing and use of gloves in all resident care to
prevent spread of disease and infection
• Observes residents and notes physical condition, attitude, reaction,
appetite, etc. Reports changes or unusual findings to supervisor. Assists with
emergencies as needed
• Provides mobility by assisting with weight bearing and ambulation as
tolerated by residents. Utilizes the appropriate mechanical lift when lifting
residents who are unable to ambulate
• Assists with restorative and rehabilitative care of residents. Encourages and
provides range of motion. Assists with ambulation as tolerated
• Documents care provided and signs entries appropriately
• Attends inservice training and monthly staff meetings. Receives a minimum of
six (6) hours of work-related training per quarter following completion of
Nursing Assistant certification
• Assists residents with proper placement of glasses, hearing aids and dentures
• Performs assigned clerical duties at the nurses’ station, answers call lights
promptly, may answer telephones and intercom, runs errands as directed by the
supervisor"
