Platform Software Development Engineer - Remote

We are looking for a Platform Software Development Engineer to build and maintain the engineering platform that enables secure, scalable, and efficient software delivery across all product teams. You own cloud infrastructure, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, observability, and automation. You treat the engineering team as your customer and obsess over their productivity and safety. The platform team is the force multiplier that makes every other engineer faster.

Responsibilities

<>Cloud Infrastructure</>

• Administer and develop on Google Cloud Platform — GKE cluster management, networking, IAM, Secret Manager, and core services.
• Design, provision, and maintain infrastructure using Terraform — modular, version-controlled, production-grade configs.
• Manage GKE workloads: deployments, autoscaling, namespaces, network policies, and cluster upgrades.
• Support Microservices and Serverless deployment patterns across product teams.

<>CI/CD & Developer Tooling</>

• Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines — stages, caching, parallel jobs, environment promotions, and rollback strategies.
• Create golden-path templates and reusable pipeline components that reduce time from commit to production.
• Integrate automated testing, SAST/DAST scanning, and quality enforcement into GitLab pipelines.
• Build self-service developer tooling and GitOps workflows to reduce manual toil.

<>Security & Compliance</>

• Implement and enforce authentication and authorisation controls: Google Cloud Platform IAM, Workload Identity, OIDC, and service account governance.
• Apply data security principles: encryption at rest and in transit, secrets management, and DLP controls on BigQuery.
• Enforce Google Cloud Platform org policies, VPC Service Controls, and audit logging across environments.
• Integrate security scanning and vulnerability management into CI/CD pipelines.

<>Observability & Reliability</>

• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and distributed tracing using Google Cloud Platform-native tools and third-party observability platforms.
• Define and track SLOs for platform services; build runbooks and support on-call processes.
• Drive platform reliability improvements based on incident learnings.

<>Automation</>

• Automate platform operations and developer workflows using Python, Bash, or Go.
• Maintain infrastructure hygiene: cost governance, unused resource cleanup, quota management.

Requirements

<>Required Skills</>

• 5+ years of platform, DevOps, or cloud engineering experience.
• Google Cloud Platform — deep hands-on experience with GKE, IAM, networking, and core services.
• GKE and Kubernetes: production cluster operations, networking, RBAC, and workload management.
• Terraform — modular infrastructure as code, state management, and GitOps integration.
• GitLab CI/CD — pipeline design, optimisation, and developer enablement.
• Authentication and authorisation: Google Cloud Platform IAM, Workload Identity, OAuth 2.0, OIDC.
• Data security principles: encryption, secrets management, access control, audit logging.
• BigQuery: access controls, encryption, data governance, and cost management.
• Microservices and Serverless deployment on GKE and Google Cloud Platform.
• Automation scripting in Python or Bash.
