Licensed Mechanical Engineer with Plumbing Design Expertise

Prefab Logic is a technology and data-driven engineering design firm focused on combating the affordable housing crisis through innovative construction solutions. The Licensed Mechanical Engineer with Plumbing Design Expertise will perform detailed plumbing building design, provide technical guidance, ensure compliance with codes, mentor junior staff, and contribute to client relationships and firm growth. This role offers flexible work arrangements with locations in Ft. Worth, Texas, Nampa, Idaho, or remote within the U.S., with periodic on-site visits.

Responsibilities:

• Performing and directing others in detailed building design, including equipment sizing and selection, plumbing waste and vent, plumbing water supply and gas, plumbing riser diagrams and isometrics, and related engineering calculations
• Providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff
• Ensuring that design standards and quality control procedures are followed and that designs comply with federal, state, and local codes
• Mentoring more junior staff and developing them for growth within their discipline and the firm
• Contributing to our Learning Management System by developing design standards, white papers, and technical design documentation
• May supervise the work of more junior staff on project work
• Growing and fostering relationships with clients
• Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposals (RFPs)
• Meeting with current and potential clients to review their current and future design needs
• Managing the local design team in collaboration with the leadership team at our Nampa, Idaho headquarters
• Attending conferences, symposia, etc., to improve the visibility of the firm’s products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff
• Submitting technical articles and designs for publishing to technical journals and industry publications

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET-accredited university
• Professional Engineering (PE) license
• 4+ years of building design experience (Plumbing)
• Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam
• Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
• Strong understanding and knowledge of industry codes, including the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), International Building Code (IBC), and International Plumbing Code (IPC)
• Comprehensive knowledge and multi-discipline experience in planning, designing, and constructing large-scale projects
• Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with employees at all levels effectively, persuasively, and tactfully
• Ability to leverage a matrix organization to build relationships and drive desired results
• Excellent communication skills in a coaching/training atmosphere
• Ability to be a flexible team player and adapt to changing requirements
• Modular construction experience
• Experience managing two or more people on a project team
• Experience reviewing submittals and responding to construction administration requests for information
• Understanding of California Building Energy Efficiency Standards
