TDS Telecom is a company that provides high-speed internet, TV entertainment, and phone services to communities across the U.S. The Senior Principal Software Engineer will provide end-to-end technical leadership for critical technologies and systems, mentor others on software engineering best practices, and lead large-scale projects that support mission-critical business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide detailed software engineering, architectural planning, and operational readiness for the TDS environment with significant emphasis placed on the individual’s technical leadership skills
- Identify, generate, and manage system-wide projects, which produce implementation, integration, and support direction for new software technologies
- Identify and research integration and best practices to best introduce new software solutions into the TDS technology ecosystem
- Lead research initiatives that will evaluate new software technologies to fill a current gap or future systems need
- Lead large-scale projects that cross functional boundaries and support company-wide mission-critical business operations by deploying new software, applications, systems, and technologies, including activities associated with estimates, schedules, scope, design, development, integration, testing, POC, and implementation
- Create and present business cases or other presentations to appropriate governance and leadership groups to initiate purchases, attain project approval, or to gain approval for other efforts as required
- Initiates activities focused on quality and continuous improvement initiatives across business units within the company
- Develops recommendations for improvements to business process owners in the use and modification of system software
- Uses expert knowledge of industry and competitive marketplace to inform recommendations
- Lead in the definition of technical standards and guidelines governing when and how to use software and technologies that align with TDS Telecom’s strategic plan with a deep understanding of agile practices
- Review software designs to ensure design patterns, security policy, and general best practices are followed to meet established goals for high levels of automation, resiliency, availability, security, and performance
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience
- 7+ years of software development, integration and/or testing experience
- 5+ years of technical lead experience
- Expert knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, and tools especially related to agile practices
- Expert knowledge of the appropriate IT software technologies and tools
- Proficient knowledge of software testing practices and tools
- Expert knowledge and experience in performing performance and troubleshooting tasks within a large-scale custom development and SaaS environment
- Extensive knowledge of IT processes and standards and the ability to consistently follow and enforce their use in all work
- Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and tools
- Knowledge of business analysis practices and business process modeling
- Knowledge of networking, routing, and protocols
- Knowledge of reporting, analysis, monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Knowledge of quality management and quality improvement practices
- Knowledge of techniques to establish business relationships with outside vendors
- Ability to make timely decisions in a fast-paced agile environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and organizes time
- Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills, to interface with personnel at all levels in the organization, and to interact with suppliers
