Sr. Director, Product Management, Business License & Property Tax

Avalara is a leading company in cloud compliance solutions, and they are seeking a Senior Director of Product Management for their Property Tax and Business Licenses portfolio. This role involves partnering with leadership to establish product vision and drive strategic initiatives to enhance customer experience and business growth.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure end-to-end accountability by leveraging your combined product, operational, program, and go-to-market knowledge
• Motivate, inspire, and grow your people. Consistently hire A-players, earn their loyalty, and grow their careers
• Lead the shift for our customers from singular product tasks to agentic cross-product workflows as a problem-solver and demonstrated AI experimenter
• Partner cross-functionally and integrate diverse product portfolios
• Drive results through influence and enthusiasm across teams
• Conduct briefings and demos both internally and with customers

Requirements:

• 10+ years of related product management experience and 5+ years of leadership and management experience
• Track record of leading a team of 5-20 directs or matrixed employees, and experience influencing product, design, and engineering teams of 40 – 200+
• Demonstrated success leading products and product teams from inception through launch for solutions that target small, mid, and enterprise-level businesses
• Broad understanding of tax compliance, financial technology, and SaaS environments
• Preferred experience includes domain expertise in tax compliance, specifically 1099, Property Tax, Business Licenses, or Cross-Border
• Bonus if expertise is demonstrated in more than one area
• Experience with agile development methodologies and commonly used tools such as Jira, Confluence, etc
• Experience utilizing customer journey maps to define end-to-end customer experiences
• Hands-on experience analyzing data and deriving actionable outcomes
• Strategic thinking with the ability to go deep when necessary
• A strong collaborator with high EQ and a sense of empathy
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (accounting, business, or computer science); MBA desirable
• Experience using AI and AI-related technologies
• Ability to apply AI every day to business challenges - improving efficiency, contributing solutions, and driving results for your team, our company, and our customers
