The Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking a passionate and collaborative Adjunct Faculty Member to join our growing academic team. This position offers a unique opportunity to educate and mentor the next generation of physicians while contributing to the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of an innovative osteopathic medical curriculum.
Working closely with the Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, Curriculum and Assessment, academic leadership, and interdisciplinary faculty, this individual will play an integral role in both pre-clinical and clinical medical education. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student success, and osteopathic medical education.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the appropriate academic leadership, the Clinical Faculty Member will collaborate with faculty, administrators, and staff to support the delivery of curriculum across the continuum of medical education. Responsibilities include teaching clinical skills, participating in curriculum development and assessment, and coordinating didactic components of both pre-clinical and clinical education programs.
This faculty member will be instrumental in preparing students for clinical practice through innovative instruction, mentorship, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and assess clinical skills within assigned courses throughout the curriculum.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of pre-clinical and clinical educational programs.
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and staff to ensure integration of clinical education across the curriculum.
- Contribute to curriculum planning, evaluation, and student assessment activities.
- Provide academic mentoring and professional guidance to medical students.
- Support accreditation standards and educational quality initiatives.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and institutional activities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
- Assist with other academic and institutional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Preferred
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.
- Demonstrated experience in academic medicine, teaching, curriculum delivery, and student assessment.
Considered
- Ph.D. from an accredited institution with a focus in Medical Education or a related field, accompanied by significant educational leadership experience and expertise in medical education.
Experience
Preferred
- Experience as a physician educator with successful completion of faculty development training or graduate-level education leadership programs.
- Experience teaching in an osteopathic medical school environment.
- Leadership or administrative experience at the discipline, department, or program level within higher education.
- Demonstrated success in curriculum development, learner assessment, and educational program management.
Licensure/Certification
- Current state medical licensure required for physician candidates.
- Board certification or eligibility preferred, where applicable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of pre-clinical medical education and clinical skills training.
- Understanding of osteopathic principles and practices.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and best practices in medical education.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and educational technologies.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and respectful collaboration.
- Flexibility and willingness to support evolving institutional needs.
- Ability to work collegially with faculty, learners, staff, and external partners.
