Michael Baker International is seeking a passionate and detail-driven Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Providence, RI. In this role, you’ll lead the design and documentation of electrical systems for a wide range of impactful building projects, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the design and development of electrical construction documents, including layouts, details, and specifications
- Engineer complete building systems—lighting, power distribution, and specialty electrical systems—across a variety of project types
- Collaborate with architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and other disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions
- Engage with clients, support proposal development, and contribute to business growth
- Perform advanced analysis, calculations, and design evaluations for electrical power and lighting systems
- Use Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD to produce construction drawings and design electrical systems, including device layouts, circuiting, lighting, and panel schedules
- Review project requirements and coordinate with other disciplines to refine design strategies and respond to evolving project conditions
- Participate in client meetings, assess project needs, present design concepts, and adjust plans to meet client expectations
- Communicate technical and program information clearly to team members, management, and clients
- Define scope of work, conduct site inspections, and ensure quality and compliance throughout the design process
- Coordinate or perform field work to gather data and verify existing conditions
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of government, military, and industry standards
- Conduct internal technical reviews and quality control checks on project deliverables
- Maintain strong communication with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Edit and review technical specifications and contribute written narratives for project documentation
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and perform site visits during construction
- Prepare design fee estimates for proposals and RFPs
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a focus on Electrical Engineering
- 5 years of related experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer Required
- Effective visual/verbal communication skills
- Possess a proficient understanding of inter-relationships among design/engineering disciplines, clients, and construction
- Extensive experience in Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD
- Engineering software experience (SKM, EasyPower, AGI32, or Elumtools)
- Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM)
- Micro-Grid Design experience
