The Regional Transmission Planning Engineer 2 role involves providing engineering analysis and technical support to ensure reliable operations of the electric power grid while adhering to NERC standards and ERCOT market rules.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and apply principles, theories, and concepts related to the engineering profession and ERCOT culture
- Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
- Design and perform steady-state contingency analyses using power flow models (PowerWorld, PSSE, etc.) under the direction of a senior-level engineer and/or management
- Structure planning studies and sensitivity analyses to determine the need for transmission improvements and to evaluate proposed projects, including technical and financial analyses
- Assist, guide, and mentor lower-level engineers, as appropriate
- Assist in providing input and analyses on market rules issues related to transmission planning, as appropriate
- Assist in providing market simulation/forecasting and transmission planning analyses to support other ERCOT activities, as appropriate
- Impact is generally limited to specific assignments or projects
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a power system engineer or similar type role for Engineer 2
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a power system engineer or similar type role for Engineer 3
- Minimum 5 years of job-related work experience in excess of degree requirements for Senior Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree: Electrical Engineering or related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields
- Experience within the electric utility industry
