Environmental Engineer

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support projects aimed at improving water quality statewide. The role involves reviewing engineering documents, coordinating project activities, and providing technical guidance to ensure responsible management of water systems.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate engineering plans, funding applications, feasibility studies, and contract documents for wastewater, drinking water, stormwater, and non point source projects
• Work with PENNVEST partners, applicants, and staff to support project planning, ranking, funding, and compliance needs
• Maintain accurate program records and ensure entries meet quality standards across DEP electronic systems
• Provide direction on federal requirements such as AIS and BABA and assist with policy and procedure development
• Conduct site inspections, review change orders, and confirm that projects meet technical and regulatory expectations
• Participate in training, workgroups, studies, and knowledge transfer activities that support statewide program improvement

Requirements:

• Two years as an Environmental Engineering Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Four years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Three years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Three years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering
• Graduate study in environmental engineering or in a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
• This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license
