Outcome School is a free tech school offering structured programs in various technology fields, including game development. They are seeking a Game Development Engineering Mentor to guide learners through programming concepts and support their project development in a remote volunteer capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Guide learners through game programming concepts
- Support learners in building projects
- Help learners apply object-oriented programming principles to real-world game development tasks
- Host virtual mentoring sessions
- Review code and game prototypes
- Provide constructive feedback
- Answer technical questions in online forums or group chats
- Collaborate with Outcome School staff to align mentoring activities with the curriculum
- Share industry insights
- Help learners understand career pathways in game development
- Model professional communication
- Encourage inclusive participation
- Foster a supportive learning environment for underserved youth
Requirements:
- Ability to mentor learners in core Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts
- Proficiency in Game Programming and Gameplay Programming for modern game engines or frameworks
- Experience with Game Design, including basic principles of player experience, mechanics, and iteration
- Prior experience with at least one game engine or framework (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, or similar)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to beginners
- Commitment to supporting underserved and minority youth, with a focus on empathy, patience, and inclusion
- Reliable internet access and ability to participate in scheduled remote mentoring sessions
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, or coaching in a technical or creative field is highly beneficial
