Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Design Phase Manager II with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. The Design Phase Manager will ensure the owner’s vision is translated into design solutions and construction parameters through leadership of the design process and team members.
Responsibilities:
- Overall project leadership during the design phase as it relates to customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design, and planning which will result in a smooth transition to construction operations
- Lead the project team in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, construction readiness, and excellent financial performance
- Establish and manage project budget and scope expectations, budget trending logs and any associated communications and resources
- Create and supervise project schedules and key achievements, hold team members accountable for reaching set achievements
- Ensure regulatory approvals and permits are obtained
- Ensure proper alignment of design documents and project execution plan
- Responsible for bid packages and contract manuals
- Identify and resolve technical design and specification concerns
- Develop project margin plan Act as primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners during the design phase and lead the overall project team
- Monitor and measure against project success factors for customers, design partners, and Mortenson team
- Foster an integrated team experience through communication and collaboration
- Manage, mentor, and guide design phase team members to ensure clear direction and career growth
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
- Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field
- Minimum of eight (8) years relevant experience
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
- Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
- Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
- Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
- Ability to travel up to 100%
