Research Coordinator III (Bilingual Spanish) - Pediatrics - Nutrition

Summary

We are recruiting a research coordinator to support clinical research at a translational metabolic research laboratory at the USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine.  The individual will provide research coordination to a productive research program and interact with multiple team members and research participants. The candidate will follow established guidelines and support the PI in the conduct of research activities and execution of research protocol procedures. 

The Research Coordinator III is expected to provide guidance and mentorship to junior research coordinators and train them on the regulatory aspects of clinical research. This role will also lead and support research activities related to participant recruitment, outreach event coordination, and engagement with community clinics to support recruitment efforts.

Flexible schedule to accommodate children’s and parents’ schedules. The research unit is open two Saturdays per month.

Job Duties

This individual will support the PI in ensuring protocol adherence, data quality, and regulatory compliance. 

• Submission of IRB materials and modifications, and ensuring appropriate updated consent forms are used (10% effort)
• Execution of the study protocols and day to day management of the schedule and coordination with research units, nurses, laboratory personnel (40%)
• Team management: assign tasks to team members (RC I and RC II) and oversee completion such as monitoring that correct consent forms are used, consenting is conducted appropriately, scheduling research visits is done in a timely fashion, and that research data are entered in central database as per protocol (10% effort)
• Develop and Maintain REDCap database, generate surveys and produce reports of study activity as needed (10% effort) 
• Perform specimen processing as needed and shipment of laboratory specimen (10%)
• Training of new staff members on different aspects of the research such as informed consent, collection of vital signs(5%  effort)
• Maintain Study Binders (5%)
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
• Bilingual proficiency preferred.
• Experience with REDCap and database maintenance preferred.
• Clinical trial experience is highly desirable.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Experience recruiting and obtaining informed consent from research participants.
• Familiarity with submitting research protocols to regulatory bodies and research oversight committees (e.g., IRB).
• Knowledge of medical conditions and clinical terminology is desirable.
