This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, C.M. Tucker Jr. Nurse Care Center-Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden St. Columbia, SC 29203.

As the the Environmental Safety Manager, you will assume full responsibility for various aspects of the Environment of Care Program, including design, education, performance, measurement and improvement; applies state and federal laws, policies and regulations to Environment of Care in a long-term care facility.

Responsibilities for the Safety Compliance Officer / Environmental Health Manager I (include but are not limited to):

• Develop and manage the Environment of Care Program (EOC). Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the
  Environment of Care (EOC) Program in alignment with laws, regulations, and best practices. Evaluate program effectiveness and revises policies and procedures as needed to ensure safety and compliance.
• Conduct Facility Inspections and Compliance Monitoring. Perform weekly compliance rounds across four units at C.M. Tucker and
  conducts on-call safety inspections. Submit, track, and follow up on Physical Plant Services (PPS) and painter work orders through completion, reporting findings to the Facility Administrator.
• Perform Environmental Testing and Safety System Checks. Conduct and document monthly testing of water quality (hot water temperature, chlorine levels, hardness, alkalinity, and pH), fire and smoke wall inspections, annual smoke door inspections, weekly eyewash station checks, and monthly Secure Care Door Guardian System tests to ensure regulatory compliance. 
• Analyze Safety Data and Reports to Leadership. Operate an information collection and evaluation system to assess EOC performance. Prepares detailed reports on safety issues, incidents, and trends for the Performance Improvement Coordinator, Facility Administrator, and Governing Body, including actions taken and their effectiveness. 
• Provide Safety Education and participate in Committees. Serve as a resource on safety and EOC matters by participating in committees
  such as Safety & Quality Improvement, Falls Committee, and the BHDD - OMH Disaster Coordinators Committee. Conduct confidential investigations, develop safety newsletters, and deliver safety in-services to enhance staff awareness and program effectiveness.

Examples of duties

• A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Additional Requirements:

• Must maintain confidentiality. 
• Position is considered essential
• Ability to lift up to thirty (30) pounds routinely, with the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more during emergencies; ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two or three flights of stairs. 
• Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas. 
  

Qualifications

• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
