Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer, Special Projects

Google is a leading technology company known for its innovative approach to data center engineering. They are seeking a Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer to oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of complex HVAC and mechanical distribution systems for their rapidly expanding data centers, ensuring compliance with design standards and local regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining Mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion
• Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations
• Collaborate effectively with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering Requests for Information (RFI) and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design
• Work closely with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR
• Own and manage site-level power system issues during projects execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve challenges effectively

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 12 years of experience in design, construction and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems, including air and water side systems
• 12 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments
• Experience in mechanical infrastructure
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time as required
• Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other related field
• Professional engineering license
• Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, fuel oil systems, domestic water systems, and sanitary sewer systems in mission critical environment
• Experience in designing complex modular building scale assemblies, with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis
• Experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission critical data center mechanical equipment
• Expertise in the areas of design for medium-scale production, structural beams/elements, and international building codes, with knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles
